Hypothesis confirmed: with logging on, Adium gets to be very heavy.
I was seeing somewhere between 30 seconds and a minute to get to the keychain login, and another 30 seconds to bring up a contact list. Clean out the logs, relaunch — about 4 seconds for each.
The logs live in ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default. Remove or archive them and watch it fly. -NB

That doesn’t make any sense; logs are never accessed unless you open the Transcript Viewer or a chat tab; in the latter case, only the logs for the particular contact are accessed, and then only a single time to pull up the history.
If you cleaned out the *entire* ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Users/Default folder, something besides your logs was there which was at fault. Please submit a trac ticket (trac.adiumx.com) with the details of your problem so we can fix it rather than having voodoo fixes in the wild
Hi Evan,
Being in the software game, I don’t much care for magic problems or solutions, either. However, all I did was rm -rf an account’s directory that had about 10MB of logs. Doesn’t make sense to me either.
There could well be some completely external factor. I’ll keep my eyes on it and can confirm/refute this further. It sure seemed like a magic bullet last night.
If you clean this folder… you don’t have any archived conversation anymore…
My Adium is really slow to start… My Logs/* are 29Megs… But I need them.
Is there any way to make adium faster?
